The great thing about her music is that it rises and falls in all the right places. I love their take and their insight, but when I want to immerse myself in the landscape and the experience, all i want to hear is the melancholy beauty of Jessica Curry's score. Somehow, hearing them talk takes away the mystery and majesty. One thing I would caution, though is to play the game all the way through one time first before turning the commentary track on. It's fascinating to look at this world they've built with them as tour guides. A unique choice to make, where the creative minds behind the game discuss choices and ideas. The commentary track is quite interesting. Perhaps then, you'll hear the answer you need. You want answers, but they exist just beyond the reach of your fingertips. But at the same time, you want to find out more, you want to go, reach the heart of the island. You want to walk slow so you can hear them. Yes, I would have loved to be able to run and jump, but as you listen to the enigmatic tale of the island and former inhabitants, those things cease to matter. I don't think walking simulator really does this game justice. The melodic tones lull you into a sense of fascination, but the words offer no solace. The voice over work and script is astounding. I'm not sure I can describe just how beautiful, frightening and poetic the game is.

A lighthouse still works, and buoys still shine, and there's a radio tower still working, but rusted shipwrecks and broken down buildings dot the landscape. We hear the story of the island, or a strange mythology behind it, and wonder just what transpired on the bleak and uninviting jutting of rock. You might expect something to leap out or fear to shock you. However, while it does not have the same gameplay as other titles, while it doesn't have bad guys in the usual sense, it does have something else. It's a strange experience, playing the game. As a bonus, this edition comes with a director's commentary, available right from the start. Developed by The Chinese Room and released by Curve Digital, Dear Esther takes us on a strange journey.

Has he come to the island to die? Did he get shipwrecked along with so many others? Where has he gone? Yet that is not the case. We assume then that we play as Esther, looking for this lost soul. At the start, and as we journey deeper into the island, we hear a man reading from different letters to Esther.
